Gum Tree Stables is located in Gum Tree Pennsylvania, just outside of Cochranville about 8 miles west of Unionville in the south eastern part of Chester County. Situated on over 100 gently rolling acres of excellent grass with 3 and 4 board oak fencing. We are 15 minutes from the New Bolton veterinarian center, 30 minutes from the Fair Hill training center, 1 1/2 hours from Baltimore and 3 hours from New York.

Being located in the heart of Pennsylvania's horse country has it's advantages. Some of the best Veterinarians , general, reproductive, racing and sport in the Mid-Atlantic area practice within minutes of our farm. Along with some of the best Farriers and other equine service providers. Given the fact that Pennsylvania is an agricultural state we are able to purchase our feed from a family owned mill. All of the grain is grown by family owned farms here in PA and New York not from other countries. Mixed to our specifications and the individual needs of the horse being fed. We grow and bale most of the hay we use. Alfalfa and straw is bought from neighboring farms so we know the quality can be trusted. Because we deal direct with no suites or middlemen adding to the cost we are able to pass these savings on to our clients.
Thoroughbred Racehorse, breeding, foaling and Training
We offer boarding for the breeding and foaling of mares along with raising and sales prep. We also break and train our young horses getting them fit and ready to race shortly after being sent to the track. We are often complimented on how well our horses are prepared and mannered by various trainers. Our training fees are considerably less then race track rates for doing the same thing and in a much better environment.
We also offer, lay-ups and leg-ups along with R&R for racehorses. Larry is a licensed Steeplechase trainer and jockey.
Pleasure and Sport Horse Boarding
We also offer "pleasure" and sport horse boarding. With over 100 acres to work with there is plenty of
"rideablity" with in the farm itself. 100X200 sand ring with various jumps to choose from. In addition we have "natural" jumps of all kinds set up around the property along trails and jumps in 20 acres of woods. For those more adventurous they can take their horses and ride for miles in just about any direction off the farm. We are in horse country after all and almost all of our neighbors are horse people or farmers. Plans are in the works to build an Indoor area later in 2012. We are also located in Cheshire Hunt Country and are members so we can offer capping from time to time to our boarders. Laura has been hunting since childhood and is excellent with developing fox hunters. She thoroughly enjoys teaching the skills need to have fun outside the "ring". We both enjoy teaching and offer lessons. Specializing in beginners to advanced. For those who want to board with us and want use an instructor of their choice they are free to do so. We are not a "competition" show barn per-say. So if you are just starting out and or want to learn the art of riding you will feel comfortable here. No horse but want to learn no problem we can set you up on a per day program.
Our Pleasure horse boarding rates are all inclusive no "nickel and dimeing", basic grooming, turn out, blanketing when necessary. Any basic medications are charged at our direct costs. We offer very reasonable rates for schooling and training for the times a client can not do it themselves. If you are looking for a barn that will tack up and hand you your horse as soon as you get out of the car we are probably not for you. But we are happy to help. We feel strongly that people should be as competent on the ground and working around their horse as they are on their back. We take great pleasure in teaching and passing on our lifetime of acquired horsemen skills. Especially to those just starting out. Feel free to call or drop by the farm at just about anytime.
